Welcome to Community Homes Spotlight
After providing Residents of the Month profiles for over three years, we are starting the New Year with a broader perspective on our organization and its people.
You may still see “real-life” stories of our unique residents, but there is more of a story to tell each month than just individual profiles. It is important that we give you opportunities to know more about us.
Welcome to Community Homes Spotlight!
Each month, we will spotlight the uniqueness of Community Homes from a different perspective.
To start our new year and our new column, let’s shine the January Spotlight on a real-life look at the daily life of our Resident Services team.
When a resident moves into a Community Homes apartment, he/she/both inherits a safe, comfortable, and affordable place to live, a new “community” of resident friends, plus a dedicated professional staff called the Resident Services Department, a “go-to” team residents depend on for assistance with a variety of needs.
In our experience, some of our residents struggle with tasks that many of us find easy. One of the benefits for them is the availability of the Resident Services team to help them out.
We asked Resident Services Coordinator Bonnie Heist for a real-life example of an interaction with a needy resident. Here, in her own words, is what she told us. For confidentiality, we call the resident “Mary”. Bonnie shares, “Mary, a once happy lady, had been declining in her physical appearance and mental state. Her physical appearance was not good. She wore the same clothing for weeks, and her hair was visibly dirty and matted. She was not eating regular meals and relied on leftover food from the community and anything free she could scrounge up. I sent a referral to Albright Life, who assessed Mary and enrolled her in their program. It helped her. Mary now has groceries and meals delivered to her apartment and follows a personal care schedule. She is now the smiling, happy person we knew at the beginning. We also involved a relative who helps her with her finances. Most importantly, Mary continues to live independently in her own Community Homes apartment”.
Please continue to look for our Community Homes Spotlight each month. We will share stories that impact the lives of our residents and the community.
Thank you, and Happy New Year!
